MUSCATINE, Iowa–Helping others always mattered for Muscatine resident Felicia Petty. In the past, Petty found a variety of ways to make a difference in her community, including working with adults with disabilities. In Dec. 2020 when someone came to Petty’s mother seeking assistance, she discovered a whole new way to help Muscatine County.

Last winter, Petty recalls, “someone reached out to my mom because there was a woman, a single mother from a domestic situation, who needed help.” After Petty’s family assisted the woman, they heard about other people, including families struggling to get by, more single mothers, and foster children and families, who could use a helping hand.

Petty began collecting donations of household items, clothing for people of all ages, and baby furniture to distribute for free to anyone who needed it. She soon found herself with two storage garages full of items to give to the numerous people who got in touch with her.

Looking to formalize her charitable organization, she began the process of seeking official non-profit status. With the help of some friends on a moms’ Facebook group, Petty selected the name Kyle’s Graceful Adventures for her charity to honor the memory of her younger brother, Kyle, and to incorporate the initials of her two children, G and A.

Though Petty has lost count of how many people she has served since Dec. 2020, she knows quite a few people have sought her out. She has 20 people currently receiving supplies and expects that number to grow in the future. She encourages anyone in need of help to reach out to her at 563-506-3026 or to message the Kyle’s Graceful Adventures Facebook Page. If you would like to donate to Kyle’s Graceful Adventures, Petty encourages you to call her or message the Facebook page to schedule a time to drop your items off.
