My family and I are pleased to share with you that Lemonade For a Cause II, supporting the Muscatine Center for Social Action’s (MCSA’s) Domestic Violence Shelter, is taking place this Saturday, July 16, from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. outside our home at 417 West Third Street in Muscatine. Let me be clear that 100% of every single penny collected will be donated to the domestic violence shelter. Our family is pleased to provide the lemonade and some additional treats that will be available to purchase. Last year, thanks to the generosity of our donors, we raised $1,800 for the domestic violence shelter in one day! Our goal is to surpass that amount, and we need your support to make it happen!
The idea to host a lemonade fundraiser was my wife’s, and supporting our local MCSA Domestic Violence Shelter is something we as a family have done for the past few years. The shelter provides a safe space for women and their children fleeing domestic violence. Often, those in need arrive at the shelter door with only the clothing they’re wearing, and that’s it.
Here are some stats from 2021 and this year. In 2021, 25 women and 30 children stayed at MCSA’s Domestic Violence Shelter, and the crisis line received 438 calls from those seeking comfort, guidance, and support. By the end of May, the shelter had 11 women and 10 children stay at the shelter and had received 128 calls to the crisis line.
COVID has impacted the fundraising capabilities for the shelter, and that’s why we’re back with Lemonade for a Cause II. So, all you have to do is plan on stopping by this Saturday, purchasing some lemonade, and leaving feeling good because you’re making a difference. My kids are excited to have the fundraiser again and will be working hard to get each car that drives by to stop and purchase some lemonade or make a donation.
Last year’s event saw friends from the Muscatine Police Department, Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office, local businesses like Bosch Pest Control, Impact Fitness & Nutrition, and even a friend from Davenport who felt compelled to make the trip and donate. Can we count on seeing you this Saturday, July 16, between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.?! I hope so!
I’ll also mention that should you not be able to stop by but wish to contribute, you can Venmo me a donation to @Tony-Tone-Loco, and I will ensure that it is included in the total amount donated to the domestic violence shelter. Or, feel free to mail a check to our address (you’ll find that back at the top).
Thank you in advance for making this a success and for helping to ensure the doors remain open at the MCSA Domestic Violence Shelter! See you Saturday!
