MUSCATINE, Iowa–For almost two decades, Renee Reyes has helped residents at Bickford Senior Living in Muscatine get the high quality care they deserve. She shared: “I have worked at Bickford for 19 years. When I interviewed for the job, I really liked how homey Bickford looked and that their residents had their own apartments.”

Reyes started out her career as a certified nurse aid and medication aid before returning to school to get her certified medical assistant credentials. Reyes serves as a caregiver, helping residents with important everyday activities such as getting around, maintaining good hygiene, and eating regular meals. She also ensures that residents take their medications correctly and at the right times.

Over the years, Reyes has loved having the opportunity to get to meet many different residents, hear their stories, and give them the support they need to have healthier and more fulfilling lives. “I like getting to know our residents and helping them out,” she said. “They become like family.”

Working as a caregiver presents many challenges, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic when everyone has needed more support than ever. Fortunately, Reyes has found that Bickford Senior Living has created a very supportive community and that she can always count on her coworkers for support and encouragement. “I’m lucky I get to work with a bunch of awesome coworkers, that really want the best for our residents,” she stated enthusiastically. “They go that extra mile to make a difference!”
