Ryan Lukkarinen, a senior at Muscatine High School, completed his Eagle Scout Project on August 2nd, 2019. Lukkarinen planned and directed the construction of a Gaga Pit which he installed at Saints Mary and Mathias Catholic School. Students can use the Gaga Pit to play Gaga Ball, a safe, fast-paced form of dodge ball.
A unique project, Lukkarinen selected it because it would positively impact students at the school and introduce them to a new form of entertainment. “I chose this project because I wanted to do something memorable that would directly impact people’s lives, and promote fun and relaxation,” he extrapolated.
Lukkarinen’s project required several months of planning and over 140 hours to complete. Nearly twenty volunteers assisted with its construction. After finishing it, Lukkarinen took pride in the work and holds fond memories of the project. “I feel great that I completed it,” he said. “It felt like an enormous accomplishment that I will remember for the rest of my life, and I will always feel good when looking back at it.”
An active member of Boy Scouts of America Troop 127, chartered by Wesley United Methodist Church, Lukkarinen now looks forward to finishing the final steps to becoming an Eagle Scout, the troop’s highest rank.
