Make it Muscatine: Dog Days of Summer Fest

MUSCATINE, Iowa–Last summer, It Takes a Village Animal Rescue and Resources Founder Meagan Koehler found that she and other volunteers had barked up the right tree when the put on the Dog Days of Summer Fest to raise funds for their organization and bring together dog lovers from all over Muscatine County. This year, It Takes a Village will hold their second Dog Days of Summer Fest Aug. 6 in the upper section of Weed Park (at 1 Park Drive in Muscatine) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Dog Days of Summer Fest will include many opportunities for dog owners and their furry friends to have a good time, learn about pet care, and support It Takes a Village. Dog owners can care for their pets by taking advantage of low-cost microchipping and nail clipping available throughout the festival. They can also discover some simple obedience lessons they can work on with their dogs, and get a taste of what agility training looks like by attending free outdoor demonstrations, weather permitting. Dogs can socialize and show off their adorableness by walking in the Mutt Strut and by getting pictures taken at dog photo booth, for a small fee. When people get hungry, they can check out several food trucks that will make an appearance that day. Goodie bags for all with thank guests for coming out and participating in this special community event.

To support It Takes a Village, attendees may bid in a large online silent auction packed with prizes that would appeal to any pet lover. A 50/50 raffle will give people the chance to win cash prizes as well. Those looking to show off their support for It Takes a Village will also have the opportunity to purchase new merchandise with the rescue’s logo proudly emblazoned on it.

Canine and human attendees alike enjoyed the 2021 Dog Days of Summer Fest.

It Takes a Village Animal Rescue and Resources also partners with area business sponsors to make the event free for attendees and to support the work they do rescuing stray animals and those in kill shelters and taking care of all their needs, including medical expenses, until their adoptions. If your business would like to help sponsor the Dog Days of Summer Fest, Koehler encourages you to send a message to the It Takes a Village Animal Rescue and Resources Facebook Page or to email the rescue. Koehler would also like to thank the Greater Muscatine Chamber of Commerce and Industry for helping spread the word about the event.

The most dog-friendly event of the summer, Koehler invites all dog families to gather up their canine friends and to head out to this year’s Dog Days of Summer Fest. She enthused, “it’s so much fun! If you love dogs, this is the place to be!”

Koehler also anticipates getting to reunite with many of the dogs the rescue has adopted out, having some fun and sharing their success stories with the community. “The best part of this event for us, is getting to see our Village alumni again, and meeting the fur families of our amazing community and supporters.”
