MUSCATINE, Iowa–For years, Dr. Vanessa Wadden has had a passion for dentistry. As a child, she dreamed of working as a doctor. In college, she started out studying dentistry with the hopes it would help prepare her for medical classes later. However, she soon found she had a talent for dentistry and wanted to continue on that career path. “I liked it so much that I stuck with it, and I’m glad I did,” she shared. July 11, 2019, Wadden opened Healthy Smiles Family Dentistry in Muscatine and has valued serving her community ever since.
Prior to opening her own practice, Wadden studied dentistry at the University of the Philippines and the University of Iowa. While at the University of Iowa, she received the Ostrus Scholarship, The Academy of General Dentistry Senior Student Award, and the Academy of Operative Dentistry Award.
For Wadden, taking the best possible care of each of her patients represents her top priority. “We make sure they’re comfortable,” she emphasized. “We address dental fears and treat each patient as an individual.” Wadden’s personalized approach helps each patient improve their oral health.
Healthy Smiles Family Dentistry offers a wide variety of services, including regular cleanings, fillings, tooth restoration, extractions, and partial and full dentures. Along with these general dentistry services, Healthy Smiles also offers innovative CEREC crowns. Unlike traditional crowns, CEREC crowns require only one appointment to put in. After having digital images taken of their mouth rather that physical impressions, patients have a custom ceramic crown made specifically for them. Dr. Wadden can then place it in one appointment, so that patients do not need to deal with temporary crowns. Because of their sturdy material, CEREC crowns blend in well with natural teeth and last for many years. CEREC crowns also do not require a follow up visit, an additional convenience for patients.
CEREC crowns represent just one innovation Healthy Smiles has embraced. Wadden and her whole staff work hard to stay up to date with the latest dental procedures to allow them to better help their patients. “We keep up with our continuing education and all best practices and procedures,” Wadden stressed.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Healthy Smiles has also adopted additional cleaning and safety procedures to ensure the safety of all patients and staff members. “With COVID, we are following all guidelines for infection control, stated Wadden.
In her year and a half in business, Wadden has enjoyed working with the Muscatine Community and the Greater Muscatine Chamber of Commerce and Industry. “The people here are so much nicer,” Wadden enthused. “They are so nice and easy to work with.”
