MUSCATINE, Iowa–With 20 years of massage experience under her belt, in Muscatine and elsewhere, Suzanne Dunlap felt the time had come to open her business. In 2015, Dunlap opened Massage FIT in Ottumwa. Late in 2020, Dunlap returned to Muscatine, bringing her business with her and offering Muscatine residents a whole new kind of rejuvenation.

A licensed massage therapist, Dunlap specializes in neuromuscular massage. Using specific trigger points, Dunlap can help relieve pain from past injuries and help her clients feel their best. Dunlap tailors every massage she gives to meet people’s specific needs, and can combine a variety of relaxing and therapeutic massage techniques, neural reset therapy (which uses gentle movements and touch to relieve muscle tension), cupping, and spa style services to provide the most beneficial massage possible.

Beginning this summer, Dunlap will also offer group Essentrics classes. A low impact form of exercise, Essentrics works all of a person’s muscles and joints to improve strength and flexibility and to maintain mobility. Adaptable to people of all ages and experience levels, Dunlap sees Essentrics as a perfect complement to the massages she gives, as both practices work to get rid of pain and uneven muscle tension and promote a sense of well being. “It’s a nice stretching and strengthening,” Dunlap explained. “I am excited to bring it to Muscatine!”

Through all of the services Dunlap offers, Dunlap strives to help her clients feel better both mentally and physically. She shared: “helping people is what brings you back every day. You can just see the relief in their faces when their tension is gone and their pain is gone.”

Massage FIT’s warm and cozy treatment room offers the perfect space to relax in.

After briefly having a space in downtown Muscatine, Dunlap moved Massage FIT into its permanent home at 1214 Cedar Street, near the intersection with Fulliam Avenue. Located in a distinctive round building shared with Balance Massage & Yoga and Prairie Jewel Acupuncture, Massage FIT offers a calming and welcoming environment for everyone who comes in for a massage or class.

As Dunlap works to get the word out about Massage FIT and the unique services she provides to the Muscatine community, she has turned to the Greater Muscatine Chamber of Commerce and Industry to spread the news about her business even further. “In Ottumwa, we had a lot of exposure through the chamber and community involvement and we wanted that here,” she said. Dunlap enjoys reconnecting with the community and knows the Chamber will help her do so even more effectively.

If getting a nice massage without having to go out of town sounds appealing to you, Dunlap encourages you to book an appointment at Massage FIT by texting or calling (563)-260-7622. Dunlap typically schedules massages between 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., but can occasionally schedule Saturday sessions as well by request.
