MUSCATINE, Iowa–Whether you have just moved to Muscatine or have lived in the city all of your life, finding new activities to expand your interests and meet more people can have many benefits. Muscatine Newcomers and Friends recognized these positives and put together an organization dedicated to helping people do just that.
Each month, Muscatine Newcomers and Friends hosts all sorts of activities to cater to people with all different tastes and time constraints. On the third Tuesday of each month, they host a women’s luncheon that includes a featured speaker and a charity project to support. A monthly book club gives local residents a more informal chance to get together and share their love of reading.
For couples, dining adventures allows them to explore a different Muscatine eatery while also getting a chance to spend time with other area couples. Couples can also relax and unwind while also getting in some good social time at monthly game nights at Pr%f Social.
Families with children can also enjoy opportunities to get out and meet other families through the family outings group. Depending on the time of year, this group takes trips to different local attractions, such as River Bandits games in the Quad Cities, places where kids can pick their own strawberries, and pumpkin patches where families can choose pumpkins to carve and enjoy fun corn mazes or hay rack rides as well.
People who love to play (or would like to learn) Bunco can choose from one of three different Bunco groups to get involved with. For those with more free time in the evening, Bunco Babes (for women only) and Couples Bunco offers two fun monthly opportunities to play. For those who would rather play during the day, Brunch Bunco offers the perfect chance to do so.
In the spirit of helping everyone in Muscatine getting to know each other a little better, Muscatine Newcomers and Friends welcomes anyone to join. Membership costs only $20 per year, with luncheons and other activities having a small additional cost to participate in as well. Anyone wanting to join can email Rita Beecroft at [email protected] or Erin Field at [email protected].
Beecroft encourages anyone curious about joining the group to do so, as it really can help people feel more at home in Muscatine: “I would encourage people to join because it’s a great way to meet people and learn more about Muscatine – whether you are a newcomer or have lived here for years. I joined MNFC when I was new to the community, and it was a wonderful way to make friends!”
To help more people get to know about Muscatine Newcomers and Friends and to join in their activities, they recently joined the Greater Muscatine Chamber of Commerce and Industry. “We felt that joining the Chamber of Commerce would be a good way to let more people know about our organization and also provide valuable contacts for future speakers, etc.,” said Beecroft. “We want to reach as many people as possible and continue to be involved in the community.”
