MUSCATINE, Iowa–Like a fine wine, events get better with time, and the second annual Sip & Shop promises an even more fun night than the first. May 6, residents and visitors aged 21 and up can enjoy a night of after-hours shopping, wine samples, and good companionship at the Greater Muscatine Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Sip & Shop.
On May 6, Sip & Shop attendees can spend an evening leisurely exploring what downtown Muscatine has to offer. 15 different businesses will offer one ounce wine samples for guests to try. Selected by a local wine expert, the variety of both red and white and sweet and dry wines will tickle the taste buds of all who try them. This year choices of wines will even include two of Ardon Creeks’ most popular offerings.
To complement the wines, the Sip & Shop will also have a number of deals going on in 17 different stores. For those looking to spruce up their homes, Feather Your Nest Interiors will have a 10% off sale going on. Those wanting to channel a retro vibe can also get 10% off at Red & Lee Vintage and sample some tasty snacks too. Creations by Oz offers a one stop shop, with sales, giveaways, and live music going on simultaneously. Shoppers wanting some good clean fun can visit the Merrill Soap Company, which will give away free scrub bags or bamboo soap dishes to anyone who buys three or more bars of soap. For attendees who would like to make a weekend out of the event, the Merrill Hotel has a special $99 room rate for Sip & Shop participants. The Greater Muscatine Chamber of Commerce & Industry has posted the full list of participating stores and their deals on their Facebook page so people can have a good idea of what to expect ahead of time.

Anyone wanting to head out for a night on the town at the Sip & Shop may do so by preregistering online. Tickets cost $25 apiece. In addition to getting access to all of the night’s deals and wine samples, everyone who registers will also get an exclusive wine tote and wine tumbler, which they may use at the event and for many years into the future.
A relaxed and fun event, Greater Muscatine Chamber of Commerce & Industry Marketing and Events Coordinator Dena Ferreira hopes the event will have as much success as last year’s event, which attracted about 100 people to Downtown Muscatine. She shared she most enjoyed, “the after hours feel of the event by getting to shop at night while enjoying a variety of wine,” and believes participants will appreciate that ambiance this year too.
An event unlike any other the Chamber puts on, Ferreira encourages curious wine tasters and small business shoppers to come check out the Sip & Shop, especially those looking for a new way to show their moms a good time on Mother’s Day weekend. “It’s something different to do while supporting local businesses,” she said. “Mother’s Day is right around the corner, so it would be a perfect gift to spend time together!”
