Mr. Arbind Singh, despite being currently retired, has had anything but an idle life. Prior to being retired, he was a teacher for over 35 years, and with this career he is full of life experiences that allow him to advise younger people, especially teachers.
At age 63, it can be hard to remember events from the past, but Mr. Singh shares his thoughts and memories. Mr. Singh started his career teaching high school and then moved on to teaching middle school in India.
The schools in India are similar to schooling in the U.S. Most of the education taught there is similarly taught here.
Mr. Singh believes education is the backbone of the country and that’s why he pursued his career in the educational field and also believes it’s just good service.
When asked why he decided to become a teacher he said, “teaching is a good service because children are present in my life, and when they do good and smile it’s very satisfying to my heart.”
His own personal drive comes from the achievements of his students in different tests or exams.
“My personal inspiration came from the results of my students because they get the highest scores in any test or competition in India,” said Mr. Singh.
Though teaching can seem like it’s all easy and fun, there are always some difficulties. When teaching something, there can always be a few students that don’t understand or lag behind.
“There are not many drawbacks when it comes to teaching, but when some students don’t understand it gets frustrating sometimes,” said Mr. Singh.

But, Mr. Singh adds, “though it becomes frustrating at times, it just pushes me to work harder as a teacher.”
Everyone has to face challenges once in a while and so does Mr. Singh, but he doesn’t let this stop him. Even though there are challenges, these times push Mr. Singh to work harder as a teacher and improve his teaching skills.
Being a teacher also made it easier on his children, at home.
“It is a lot easier to learn things at home because we could always refer back to our father to help us out,” said Mr. Singh’s son.
Mr. Singh’s son got the help he needed and exceeded expectations, he graduated from one of the top schools in India, continued his education in the U.S, and then graduated from IIT Chicago.
Now, Mr. Singh spends time with his family while exploring both India and America.
Mr. Singh said: “nowadays, I am retired from my service as a teacher. I live with family in India and I also visit the U.S to visit my son and grandson who live in Muscatine, Iowa.”
Everyone can learn a lot from Mr. Singh. He was the best in every duty he did–he was a great father, friend, husband, teacher, and grandfather. Everything he did had one thing in common, he wanted the best for everyone.
Mr. Singh said it the best, “that teacher is the best teacher, who doesn’t just inspires students and teach in the class but who inspires everyone around him to read or to study.”
