MUSCATINE, Iowa – The Public Transit division of the Department of Public Works will be suspending MuscaBus routes from Monday, April 6, 2020, through Thursday, April 30. MuscaBus will be offering free rides by appointment only during this time.

MuscaBus routes are tentatively scheduled to resume on Friday, May 1, 2020, but that may change depending on directions and/or recommendations from state and federal government agencies.

Shuttle bus rides will be offered to the public by appointment only. Fares will be waived from April 6 to May 1. All previously purchased passes for April will be valid and accepted for use during the month of May.

“We are asking that anyone who needs a ride to call at least one day in advance to make an appointment for a ride,” Amy Fortenbacher, Public Transit Supervisor, said.  “And you can actually schedule that ride up to one week in advance.”

Anyone who would like to schedule a ride can call (563) 263-8152. Ride appointments are on a first come, first served basis.

Fortenbacher added that rides will only be provided to the doctor, work, and the grocery store.

“We only have a limited number of rides available,” Fortenbacher added. “If you need to go to the store, please try to get what you need for the week in one trip.”

Shuttle buses will be available from 6:30 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. Monday through Saturday.

“We will do our best to serve everyone who requests a ride but there may be some delays in service depending on the amount of request,” Brian Stineman, Public Works Director, said.

Remaining at home and limiting trips is one of the guidelines recommended by the Iowa Department of Public Health to help stop the spread of COVID-19 in their effort to promote social distancing and limiting the impact of the virus.
