MUSCATINE, Iowa–Whether you would like a night out with friends, a special outing with a significant other, or a chance to enjoy a meal while meeting new adult friends, Dining for a Cause will prove a delightful meal in good company. More than just an appealing night out, this popular fundraiser will return April 22 to continue benefitting the Muscatine Community Y.
This year’s Dining for a Cause will take place at Pr%f Social’s upstairs wine bar, located at 208 West Second Street in Muscatine and feature food and drinks from Pr%f, Boonie’s, Skinny’s Barbeque, and Big Cat’s Café. A full five course meal, guests will enjoy their fill of freshly prepared soups, salads, proteins, main courses, and desserts. Attendees will also receive a thoughtfully portioned glass of wine or a cocktail carefully chosen to complement each course. Vendors will provide live explanations of why each drink pairs so well with its course, educating guests while they enjoy their meal.
As people feast on good food and fellowship, the music of Paul Freer will set a genial tone for the evening. A favorite of diners for years, Freer has provided music for all but the very earliest Dinners for a Cause, when the Y had not yet added music to the event.
Along with their meals, people will get to participate in a silent auction and a basket raffle. For those looking for something a little simpler, surprise boxes will prove just the thing. For $5, guests may purchase a surprise box, which will give them a prize ranging from a $5 gift card or a meal certificate for a local restaurant to a $100 gift card.

A popular fundraiser for the past nine years, Character Development Director Amy Hessel shared that Dining for a Cause typically brings in about $2,000. This money goes a long way, as it helps provide for the free kids and teens program the Y offers each month, stocks the teen center for the local youth who use it free of charge, and keeps the price of before and afterschool Kids Club more affordable for the families that take advantage of it.
Anyone wanting to attend may purchase their tickets for $50 a piece through the Muscatine Community Y’s website or by visiting them in person at 1823 Logan Street in Muscatine during their open hours. Hessel encourages people to purchase their tickets soon, as the Y will sell no more 45 tickets at the most and about half of these have already sold.
Always a delicious dinner, Hessel encourages people to attend this year’s Dining for a Cause to enjoy the company of other like-minded people who care about the Muscatine Community Y. “Whether you come as yourself or as a couple or as a group, the atmosphere is good,” she emphasized.
She also invites diners to discover for themselves just how much perfectly paired foods and drinks contribute to an outstanding meal. “It really does expand your palate and understanding of wine,” Hessel observed “One of the coolest things too is we always find a new wine.”
