MUSCATINE, Iowa–Fundraising for the Muscatine Community Y never sounded quite as good as it did during the annual Lip Sync Battle at the Missipi Brew June 16. This year’s battle featured 11 acts and tons of fun, all geared towards helping the Y cover the cost of its youth and teen programs.

Audience participation determined the top acts of the night, which included Lily and the Gang as the youth and family winner, the Money Peeps as the adult and corporate winner, and Ted as the solo winner. “They all were well choreographed and had a lot of energy in them,” observed Muscatine Community Y Character Development and Kids Club Director Amy Hessel. For the first time, volunteers from the Y gave out best costume and creative song choice awards, which went to Victoria and Maverick respectively.

Always a successful fundraiser, the Y raised about $2,000 in entry fees, additional votes, and donations from the Brew.

One of Hessel’s favorite events of the year, she felt glad that the Y could bring it back and give kids a chance to perform for a good cause. She most enjoyed, “seeing the kids have the confidence to get up there and perform and the energy from the crowd.”
