MUSCATINE, Iowa–Growing up in Muscatine, Marcy Each discovered her love for making music the day she discovered her mom’s old guitar tucked away in the attic. Each started coming up with her own music and lyrics in high school and kept experimenting with it as she got older. At about the age of 30, she entered her work into a competition for the first time and won the opportunity to visit Nashville and work with publishers there to produce an album. Since that win in 2009, Each has continued her career as a singer songwriter, working part time as a substitute teacher and doing other odd jobs to give her time to write. Over the years, several of her songs have received nominations for Dove Awards, which honor the best Gospel and Christian inspired music of the year.

Though Each now lives in Cedar Rapids, she plans to bring her music back to her hometown with an early Valentine’s Day concert scheduled for Feb. 12. “It’s rare that I do concerts, but it’s fun,” she stated.

During her hour-long concert, Each will perform some of her original music, which she describes as having a, “country Americana,” flare to it. Centered around everyday topics such as family life, Each feels that audiences will connect well with the hopeful tone of her music as well as the healthy dose of humor she includes in many songs. She also believes listeners will find her music unique and enjoy what gives it its own style. “It’s just very different than anything you would hear anywhere else,” she emphasized.

In between songs, Each will also share her inspirations for them, giving listeners a look at the process of writing original music. To make the performance particularly special, Each’s two sisters, Holly Bodin and Rachel Roeth, will play alongside her.

As someone who enjoys the creative process of composing and writing songs, Each looks forward to sharing her work with the Muscatine community. “There’s a lot of reward in a three minute song that’s fun and might mean a lot to someone,” she said.

She also hopes that by sharing her work and the thinking that goes into each of her songs she can empower aspiring musicians to follow their dreams and create beautiful songs of their own. She encourages all budding songwriters to, “keep doing it, loving it, and get involved with a community that’s inspiring to you.”

Each will perform her concert Feb. 12 from 7 to 8 p.m. at Calvary Church, located at 501 West Highway 61 Bypass in Muscatine. Anyone may attend the concert for free, and Each hopes to draw a good-sized audience.
