MUSCATINE, Iowa–As an end of the year community outreach project, students at Jefferson elementary school set a goal to collect 6,000 boxes of cereal to donate to Muscatine Center for Social Action and the Salvation Army of Muscatine. To help reach their goal, two Jefferson fifth grade students sent a handwritten letter to the Muscatine Police Department asking for a donation.

Happy to support the students’ efforts, the Muscatine Police Department donated 1,000 boxes of cereal to the drive on May 20. Their generous pushed students over their goal of 6,000 boxes.

To celebrate their achievement, students plan to make a domino chain that runs throughout their school with the cereal boxes before sending them off t the food pantries.
