Muscatine Police Investigate Downtown Homicide; Suspect in Custody

A homicide investigation is underway following a fatal shooting in downtown Muscatine early Thursday morning.

At approximately 8:04 a.m. on February 7, officers from the Muscatine Police Department responded to a report of a possible homicide at 208 ½ E 2nd St. Upon arrival, officers discovered the body of Michael Anthony Enriquez, 25, in the third-floor hallway of 210 E 2nd St. Enriquez had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police swiftly identified a person of interest, launching an extensive search for the suspect. Just after noon, investigators received a tip leading them to a residence at 109 E 4th St. in Muscatine. Officers secured the location, and within minutes of their arrival, the suspect, Francisco Nunez Garcia, 37, voluntarily exited the residence and surrendered without incident.

Garcia has been charged with second-degree murder, a Class B felony, and is currently being held at the Muscatine County Jail. While charges have been filed, Garcia is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
