A life-long dream has become a reality for a local businesswoman.

Cortnie McCleary opened C & Company Salon on Tuesday, Sept. 5. The salon is located at 1505 Plaza Place in Muscatine. She has several stylists who work there providing offer luxury hair services ranging from custom-tailored hair color to gray coverage, haircuts, perms, keratherapy smoothing treatments and facial waxing.

“Our spa services range from custom facials to body waxing,” McCleary said. “We are a bioelements-based spa.”

McCleary has a talented team of individuals who work at the salon who pride themselves on being the top 20 percent of the industry.

“We are home to eight stylists and one esthetician,” she said. “When I say we have a wide range of experience, I mean that our most exposed stylist in our group of ladies has been in the industry for 40+ years. Our youngest stylist has recently graduated from Capri. She has been training with me and will soon take the floor to start accepting and building her clientele. Our other stylists have been around the industry for many, many years as well, ranging from one and a half years to 20+ years. We have a lot of knowledge floating around our walls and we work very well together. If you ever have any hair needs here, the answer is in the room.”

McCleary started to consider opening her own salon a couple of years ago.

“I started to further invest in my continued education behind the chair to help elevate not only my personal grounding but to help elevate the services that I can provide behind the chair,” McCleary said. “In pursuing more education, my desire to become an educator for the brand Redken evolved.”

McCleary became a member of the Redken Power Network to learn more about the products Redken offers.

“It was around that time that the owner of my home salon, Pro Hair Designs, approached me regarding her desire to exit the industry and her hope for me to become the next salon leader,” she said. “Through a lot of thoughtful conversations and personal reflection, we both were united that as the foundation of our industry is built upon redesign and change, it was important and necessary to build a brand unique to my artistry style and salon vision.”

McCleary is excited to share her knowledge with the community and other stylists at her new salon.

“It has been a great honor for me to be able to start this journey and open up the opportunity for my fellow stylists to come along as we navigate this new and wonderful chapter of our lives,” she said.
