New Year’s resolutions

Did you know that according to U.S. News, 80% of people give up on their New Year’s Resolutions by the second week of February? I’m happy to confess that last year I broke that cycle of being a part of that statistic more times than not. What changed was last year was the first year I had a plan. It is easy to set goals and hope you achieve them. I once had a manager whose favorite line was, “hope is not a strategy.” That manger taught me that it’s important to have a realistic plan in order to achieve my goals.

Some of the goals I accomplished last year are the same ones I’ve set this year. Last year was a good year. I’m happier, healthier, and exceeded my goals for a successful year at work. My goals this year are to write and exercise more, and to help as many people as possible achieve their dream of owning an RV. My game plan is to spend at least a half hour a day sitting at my desk writing, whether it is for Discover Muscatine or working on a novel. In college, I took a creative writing class and found out I love to write. Fiction is my favorite. To exercise more my plan is to hit at least four State Parks. Iowa has some spectacular State Parks with awesome hiking trails. I’ve already circled on a map the parks I want to visit. All four are within a day driving distance there and back, although I will most likely camp overnight at several of them. My professional goals include a plan of action that includes helping as many people as possible achieve their goal of RV ownership, and of helping my customers find amazing new places to camp and to explore.

Speaking of RVs, Premier RV in Blue Grass has an indoor open house RV show coming up in a couple of weeks. The weekends of Jan. 26-28 (Thursday-Saturday) and Feb. 2-4 (Thursday-Saturday) from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The open house will be a fun opportunity to walk through a variety of RVs.

If camping is on your list of New Year’s resolutions, please stop by and check out all of the new options. If getting outdoors more and exploring new places is a goal, now is a good time to research places to go and plan out weekends this spring and summer to visit them. I find when I plan ahead, I get excited and am more likely to make my trips happen. If you have other personal or professional goals, I encourage you to make a plan of action. I hope 2023 is a happy, healthy, and successful year for you!
