FRUITLAND, Iowa–During the ups and downs of the 2020- 2021 school year, several of Chloe Ramer’s older friends at Louisa-Muscatine Junior-Senior High School left anonymous positive notes around the school to encourage fellow classmates. Inspired, Chloe, now a senior, wanted to continue and grow the tradition. “I don’t get to talk to everyone everyday, but I wanted to make them feel better,” she explained.
Throughout the beginning of the year, Chloe found creative ways to lift the spirits of classmates, teachers, and staff. One week, Chloe posed little green army men, like the ones in the movie “Toy Story,” in surprising and amusing places. Another week, she wrote positive affirmations on sticky notes and stuck them around the school to give everyone who found them a positive boost throughout the day. “I figured that everyone needs that at some point in their day–school is stressful, and you don’t know what people are dealing with outside in their life,” Chloe elaborated. She hopes she can find a chance before the end of the school year to give her school community a pleasant surprise again.
Along with her random acts of kindness, Chloe stays involved at school in other ways too. She currently belongs to the National Honors Society and serves as the reporter for Future Business Leaders of America. Outside of school, she also works part time at Walmart.
After Chloe graduates from high school in the spring, she plans on continuing to help people through her future career. Chloe intends to complete her general education classes at Muscatine Community College and then continue her education elsewhere to eventually earn a degree in medicine and start a career as a general surgeon. “I always knew I wanted to help people fix stuff,” shared Chloe. She considers general surgery particularly appealing as it will allow her to specialize in many different types of surgeries.
Wherever life takes Chole in the future, she knows the experiences she has had both in the Louisa-Muscatine school system and in Fruitland have prepared her to continue building positive
relationships and helping others. “It’s just a tight knit community–everyone knows everyone and we have gatherings and come together and I just love it!”
