Pet Food Pantry moves to new date

Starting Nov. 19, the Pet Food Pantry will move to the third Thursday of the month. This change will allow it to coincide with the people food pantry at the Muscatine Center for Social Action (MCSA). The time of distribution, 8-10 a.m., and location, corner of Sycamore and Fourth Streets parking lot, will stay the same.

At each month’s pantry, For Pets’ Sake distributes dog food, cat food, and cat litter to anyone in need of assistance. They also provide other pet care items, such as leashes, collars, waste disposal bags, and toys whenever they have them available. To assist families this winter, they will also have assorted gloves, mittens, hats, and socks in men’s, women’s, and children’s sizes available.

Since its start in September 2018, For Pets’ Sake’s monthly Pet Food Pantry has distributed 3,688 pounds of dog food, 2,684 pounds of cat food, and 3,794 pounds of cat litter. These have allowed numerous families and individuals continue to care for their pets during times of financial need. This summer, using their newly renovated minibus, they also held a mobile pantry for pet owners in Cedar Rapids affected by the durecho. They plan to hold other mobile pantries in the future.

For Pets’ Sake, a local nonprofit, provides pet fostering for people staying at MCSA, and offers a monthly pet food pantry. Support for For Pets’ Sake comes from individual donations, as well as corporate donations from Kent Corporation of Muscatine and Purina of Davenport.
