MUSCATINE, Iowa–At the Muscatine Power and Water Board meeting on Tuesday, July 26, Progress Muscatine board president, Jessica Brackett, explained one goal of Progress Muscatine is transparency and accountability of publicly funded endeavors, like MPW. To reach that goal, Progress Muscatine requested MPW take two actions:

  1. Prior to each board meeting, publicly post the information packet, minus confidential information, used by the MPW board of directors and staff at each board meeting. If this change is implemented, it would put MPW in alignment with the long-standing transparency and accountability actions of the city of Muscatine, and the actions the County Board of Supervisors approved in 2021 at Progress Muscatine’s request.
  2. Record each board meeting and make it available thru public access TV, and social media.

According to Brackett, “The requests made by Progress Muscatine are simple and easy steps that make a big difference when it comes to transparency, accountability, and accessibility of information regarding publicly funded projects.”
