MUSCATINE, Iowa–Today, the Salvation Army of Muscatine County named Mayor Diana Broderson as the Hope Advocate for their Hope Marches On Twelve Days Until Christmas Campaign. The Salvation Army hopes to raise $190,000 to fund all of their programs and expenses for 2022.
Rather than announcing a Christmas Chair or Co-Chairs at the beginning of their Red Kettle Campaign this year, Greg Bock shared that the Salvation Army chose to announce a Hope Advocate midway through the campaign to generate interest and support at a time when people might have lost sight of it. Bock feels Broderson will make an outstanding first Hope Advocate, as she has served on the Salvation Army’s advisory board for many years and has also worked to help people in need as the Muscatine Community Y’s Family Programming Director. “I’m really thankful that Mayor Diana Broderson agreed to be our Hope Advocate for these last 12 days,” he said.
As a longtime supporter of the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign and a frequent bell ringer herself (Broderson challenges all of her grandchildren to take a shift as a bell ringer each year and often joins them) Broderson felt thrilled to serve in the new role. “Anything they ask of me, I’m willing to step in and help them lift their voice and get the word out about this campaign,” she said.
Broderson and the Salvation Army encourage you to support the Red Kettle Campaign in its run up to Christmas by donating at any of their kettle locations in Muscatine, by donating online, or by signing up online to ring the bell as an individual or group.
