This holiday season, Discover Muscatine will hold its first ever Live Holiday Auction. In what will become a fun annual tradition, the Live Holiday Auction will allow local residents to bid on and buy local products at discounted rates from the comfort of their homes.

Ashley Loveless, Director of Public Relations at Pearl City Media, explained that the auction came from a fusion of exciting local marketing strategies and a desire to support the community. “We’ve seen marketing strategies that help grow local businesses, like Groupon and eBay, so we combined them into a cool holiday event. It gives our local small businesses a chance to be highlighted and actually talk about their products,” she elaborated.

On Friday, November 22nd from 8:00 am until 3:00 pm, and Saturday November 23rd from 8:00 until 11:00 am,  Loveless will go live on the hour on Discover Muscatine’s website, YouTube, and Social Media pages, as well as on MP&W cable channels 3, 17, and 717, to introduce people to participating businesses and to highlight items available both to bid on and buy immediately. Those interested in purchasing or bidding may visit www.discovermuscatine.com or call (563)-607-5373. Bidders will have one hour past the final broadcast to bid for available items. All participants must pay with a credit card unless they make special arrangements over the phone. On Monday and Tuesday, November 25th and 26th, those who purchased items or had the highest bids must claim their items at 215 East 2nd Street, Muscatine between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm.

Loveless believes people with all different tastes will feel excited about the items in the Live Holiday Auction. For those looking for the perfect holiday card photos, several local photographers have provided reduced price sessions. Anyone needing a little pampering prior to the holidays can take advantage of salon created baskets and gift certificates. People searching for something unique can bid on a hand-finished coat rack or dresser from newly opened Flipped Out Furniture.

Passes for Sportsplex parties, bouquets for a year from Flowers on the Avenue, and other certificates and items from more than thirty participating businesses will surely satisfy your holiday needs. To view the most up-to-date listing of auction items, see the full-page Live Holiday Auction preview on page ten.

Most importantly, Loveless hopes the community will get behind the Live Holiday Auction to support some of Muscatine’s finest local businesses. “The biggest thing is to support our local businesses this holiday season. People get swept up in Black Friday shopping, so it’s important to shop local.” With this outstanding time to find gifts and learn about Muscatine’s thriving small businesses, the Live Holiday Auction will satisfy shoppers and help entrepreneurs this holiday season.
