Southeast Research and Demonstration Farm holding field day

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Iowa – Farmers, farmer advisors, and the general public are invited to Iowa State University’s Southeast Research and Demonstration Farm fall field day on Sept. 7.

The field day will feature several stops:

  • Research Farm Updates, by Cody Schneider, Southeast Research and Demonstration Farm superintendent.
  • Linking Weather, Soils, and Yield – A Field Discussion by “experts” in meteorology, soil science, and agronomy, by Dennis Todey, director of Midwest Climate Hub; Lee Burras, Morrill Professor in agronomy; Bradley Miller, associate professor in agronomy; and Clarabell Probasco, Virgil Schmitt, and Rebecca Vittetoe, extension field agronomists.
  • Tips for Seeding Cover Crops, by Mark Licht, extension cropping systems specialist.
  • Planting Soybeans – What’s New and What Works (focusing on planting populations and planting dates) by Mark Licht.

Attendees will also have an opportunity to discuss concerns and ask questions of the speakers at their respective field day stops.

On-site registration starts at 1 p.m., with the field day kicking off at 1:30 p.m. For Certified Crop Advisors, there will be 0.5 crop management and 1.5 soil and water management continuing education credits available. This field day is free and open to the public without pre-registration.

To reach the farm, follow U.S. Highway 218 1.75 miles south of Crawfordsville, then two miles east on county road G-62 and go .75 miles north. Signs will be posted to guide attendees to the event.
