The Stampeding Clovers 4-H Club is excited to announce its latest community initiative, the Helmet Hair Contest. This unique contest emphasizes the importance of helmet safety while adding a touch of fun and creativity. ATV riders showcase their wildest helmet hair for a chance to win a variety of safety gear prizes.

The contest is funded by Iowa’s Center for Agricultural Safety and Health Care grant, which the Clovers received based on their application submitted by the group.

Encouraging Safety Through Fun

“We were looking at the ideas they had, and they had this contest idea as well as ATV safety,” said Celia Cutler, 12. “So, we put together the helmet hair contest.”

Together with Wyatt Smith, 9, their committee and the assistance of 4-H Stampeding Clovers leader Jennifer Smyser, they created posters for their contest. Wyatt enlisted his sister’s assistance to create the fun pictures for the poster. “I made my sister scramble up her hair to get the images. Then we came up with the poster,” said Wyatt.

Both students enjoyed creating the contest and working with their team.  “What I enjoyed about this project the most is getting to help people learn the safety of wearing a helmet when riding an ATV,” said Cutler.

How to Participate

Participants are invited to submit photos or videos of their most impressive helmet hair by July 31, 2024. Entries can be submitted through a Google form, and photo/video submissions can be sent to the club’s email at [email protected]. Winners will be notified via email or phone, and the prizes include helmets, gloves, sunglasses, and other essential ATV safety gear.

The two said the committee will be looking for entries with crazy, frizzy hair for the girls and messy, chaotic hair for the boys, big smiles and lots of fun in the pictures.

For those interested in participating, complete the entry form at https://forms.gle/CPCaeXt2LzuJETdMA and send your best helmet hair photo or video to [email protected] by July 31, 2024. Embrace the fun and ensure safety on every ride!
