One thing I love about Muscatine is the number of unique attractions we have here. We may not be as big as Iowa City or the Quad Cities, but we certainly have a lot of hidden gems.

Star Collectibles is one of those gems. They opened 10 years ago, and have been selling a remarkable variety of models, Hot Wheels, and RC cars, and comic books ever since!

What really sets Star Collectibles apart is their car races. On weekends, they hold a variety of different races, including carpet on and off road car races, rock crawling, dirt oval track races, and Hot Wheels races. These events have a huge following. People from across the Midwest, and sometimes even farther away, enter into these races. Tom McCleary told me that two weekends ago, 117 contestants from several states entered one of their tournaments and that the average tournament has over 100 cars in it. How amazing is it that so many people come to Muscatine to get in on the fun?!

Over the past year and a half, McCleary has been hard at work making all of Star Collectibles’ tracks better than ever. He has completely revamped the on and off road tracks, updated the rock crawling course (which now looks like an awesome jungle adventure, in my opinion), redid the dirt oval, and even added a lounge and kids area for spectators and racers alike to enjoy.

To celebrate this remodeling, Star Collectibles will hold a grand opening Nov. 14-15 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. All attendees will get a free hot dog, bag of chips, and pop for lunch. Those over 18 can win door prizes. There will be a free raffle going on too, where people can place their ticket (which they get upon arrival) into drawings for train sets, RC cars and helicopters, comic books, and more! Through it all, Star Collectibles will have races going on each day. Sounds like a pretty fun outing to me!

For anyone wanting to skip the crowds, Star Collectibles has plenty of models available to assemble in the comfort of your own home. They even do curbside pickup, making it easy to get your hobby supplies in the lowest contact way possible.

Want to watch the races from your couch? Star Collectibles has several Facebook pages set up to allow them to stream their events. Check out the original Star Collectibles Hobby Center for general information or Island Speedway Off-road and Island Speedway Oval for live racing.

Star Collectibles is always updating their facilities and hosting exciting events. Whether you chose to enter a race or sit back as a spectator, their days at the races offer some unique fun right here in Muscatine.
