What song do you just love singing along to? It could be while you’re driving in your vehicle or hanging out at home. Think about that for a minute and then get signed up for the Muscatine Community YMCA’s Lip Sync Battle!
The best part about this event is that you don’t have to really sing along to your favorite song, just mouth the words, aka lip sync! To make it even easier to get involved, there is no battle fee this year! There will be prizes for solo and group performances, costumes, creative song choice, and more. I know that I am really excited to be back once again as emcee and DJ for this awesome fundraiser. I should mention that the Lip Sync Battle will be taking place on Tuesday, June 14 from 5 to 9 p.m. outside (unless it rains, then inside) the Missipi Brew. All proceeds from the evening go to the Muscatine Community Y’s youth and teen programming.
I think this will be the fifth Lip Sync Battle that I have been part of. Amy Hessel, who works at the Y, is the one that came up with this great idea, and I am so grateful that she is having me! It’s important that we keep supporting programs that provide safe places for young people to be at. The Y does an incredible job, and Amy’s proven track record of success makes this fundraiser an easy one to support (in my humble opinion).
You don’t have to perform that evening, but at the very least stop out for dinner, as the Brew will be graciously donating 20% of all food and drink sales to the YMCA! While I will be there, I will also enjoy a grilled tenderloin and some of those famous Brew chips and ranch since I know that helps the cause and, it is delicious! Amy will also have several silent auction items that you can bid on along with raffle prizes as well.
The schedule looks like this: from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. we’ll have the Youth and Family Battle and starting at 7:00 p.m. will be the Adult and Corporate Battle. Last year’s battle was extremely successful, and I know given how supportive our community is that next week’s (June 14, 5-9 p.m.) will be as well.
My go-to karaoke song and Lip Sync Battle song would have to be “Gettin’ Jiggy With It” by Will Smith. I know all the words, and if I could enter the contest I would totally win!
