Muscatine Living

I know, I know, it isn’t even Halloween yet. A lot of you don’t want to hear about Christmas or even Thanksgiving because it’s too soon. But, with Christmas only about two months away, I’m ready to start thinking about the most wonderful time of the year!

The Downtown Muscatine Holiday Open House, coming up Nov. 15, is a great time to get a head start on your Christmas shopping. This year, more than 20 stores have already planned activities for that day, and more will have Sunday hours until Dec. 20.

Looking at the list of festivities on the Downtown Muscatine Facebook page, I see a lot that look like fun. Just imagine enjoying refreshments at Flipped Out Furniture (and maybe winning their prize drawing) while shopping their beautiful, handcrafted furniture, checking out great deals on cute clothes at Red & Lee Vintage, and having a hearty dinner at Skinny’s Barbecue!

The Holiday Open House will take place from noon to 4 p.m., letting people shop at their own pace, spread out, and social distance. If you feel uncomfortable with crowds, many of the businesses have curbside pickup or delivery options. What a thoughtful way to keep people safe and satisfied!

2020 has been a tough year for small businesses. At the Holiday Open House, and all through the holiday season, we have a great opportunity to help these businesses and their owners bounce back and finish the year out strong. We also have a chance to find one of a kind gifts for all the one of a kind people in our lives.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to start prepping for my holiday shopping. It’s time for me to make my lists and check them twice so that I get all the right local gifts for my friends and family!
