The Return of a Muscatine Cultural Pillar Celebrating its 20th Anniversary

Date of Release: Sept 24, 2021

Muscatine, Iowa – On Saturday, October 9, 2021, the Muscatine Symphony Orchestra returns to present its first masterworks concert of the 2021-2022 performance season.

The Muscatine Symphony Orchestra was able to succeed where countless other orchestras had not during the 2020-21 concert season.  Many organizations had to cancel entire concert seasons due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but through generous, continued financial support, amazing community collaborations, and a dedicated group of personnel and musicians, the MSO was able to create a full five MasterWorks concert season to release virtually, and FREE, to the community and beyond.

For the 2021-22 concert season, the Symphony has a wonderfully varied, and extremely talented lineup of guest artists that will help the organization celebrate its Twentieth Anniversary concert year.

World class artists who have performed in some of the most famous concert halls and operatic/Broadway stages as well as more intimate performances regional closer to Muscatine are on tap to shine a light of hope and excitement into the community.

“Bringing in artists like virtuosic violinist, Sirena Huang; Frank Sinatra crooning style vocalist Jason Richards and the QC-area Josh Duffee Big Band; Marian Lee with one of the most famous piano concertos ever written  to help celebrate our twentieth anniversary year is definitely a boon for the community,” Maestro Brian Dollinger muses. “Our first masterworks concert also brings a wonderful concerto piece to life, written for two of the orchestra’s unsung heroes, the viola and double bass, as I take on the role of soloist and conductor.Violist István Szabó joins me in a performance of the Sinfonia Concertante for double bass and viola, by Karl Ditters von Dittersdorf.  This contemporary of Mozart and Haydn has never quite gotten his day on stage.  Competing with the symphonic giants of Mozart and Haydn is a big reason why.  I’m sure the audience will been truly engaged and possibly surprised by the sonorities and abilities Dittersdorf has devoted to these two instruments of the orchestra”, Maestro Dollinger mentions.

Along with MasterWorks concerts featuring fantastic guest artists, another exciting aspect of the Twentieth (20th) Anniversary Season is the planned Gala Fundraising Event, “First You Dream,” with Broadway star Allison Blackwell on January 7, 2022.  This fantastic event will take place in the grand ballroom overlooking the Mississippi River at The Merrill Hotel. Music performed by musicians from the Symphony will be the backdrop for an evening of wonderful food and drinks culminating with an intimate performance by Ms. Blackwell.

If you’ve missed previous performances, the entire season is available on the Symphony website as well.
