Night of True Teamwork: The Unforgettable Moment from a 7th Grade Basketball Game

On a chilly evening in Muscatine, a junior high basketball game between Susan Clark Junior High and Williams Middle School turned into something much more than a competition. It became a display of sportsmanship, inclusion, and the true spirit of the game.

At the heart of it all was Jaydin Lamin, a student-athlete from Davenport Williams with Down Syndrome. But on this night, that wasn’t the story. The story was about a young player who loves basketball, taking the court and giving his all—just like every other kid on the floor.

Throughout the game, players from both teams encouraged Jaydin, making sure he had opportunities to take shots and be fully included in the action. Then, in the final moments, something incredible happened. Jaydin recovered a loose ball and sprinted down the court with a full-court crowd behind him for a layup. As the ball dropped through the hoop, the entire gym erupted in cheers—players, coaches, fans, and even the referees celebrating the moment together.

“This is amazing! Well done kiddos, coaches and parents. Raising some great kiddos❤️🙏,”  said Trista Sotelo on Facebook.

A Viral Moment That Captured Hearts

The game was recorded by Chris Anderson, the owner of Discover Muscatine, who was in attendance. When he shared a clip of Jaydin’s unforgettable play on Facebook, the response was immediate. The video went viral, with people from Muscatine, Davenport, and beyond pouring in comments of support, admiration, and joy for Jaydin and the young athletes who made the moment happen.

Jaydin’s Love for the Game

For Jaydin’s family, basketball runs in the blood. His mother, Jasmine Guy (Lamin), played for North High School, and his father, Alex Lamin-Carr, was a standout at Central High. His passion for the game is undeniable.

“Every time he gets to play, he is at his happiest,” his father shared. “He is the most caring, sweet, and respectful young man you will ever meet. Seeing the love he’s getting this season makes it all worth it.”

Despite challenges, Jaydin has never let anything stop him. His joy, determination, and ability to inspire others were on full display that night, not only through his play but through the genuine kindness and camaraderie of the young athletes around him.

More Than a Game

For the players on the court that night, this was bigger than basketball. It was about friendship, inclusion, and recognizing the power of sports to bring people together.

In an era where competition can sometimes overshadow character, these young athletes reminded us of what truly matters. And for those lucky enough to be in that gym—or to have seen the viral clip—it was a moment that won’t be forgotten anytime soon.

A Night of Champions

On an unrelated note, the 7th grade Purple Muskies won both games, but the night’s biggest win had nothing to do with the scoreboard.

It was a victory for kindness, inclusion, and the love of the game.
