UnityPoint Health® – Trinity continues its commitment to healthier hearts by bringing its free Heart to Heart Community Education Series event to Muscatine on Oct. 25.
“Embracing a heart healthy lifestyle goes a long way in preventing heart disease,” says Param Singh, MD, Cardiovascular Medicine, P.C: “You are never too old or too young to start taking care of your heart. The Heart to Heart series helps us communicate just how easy it can be to take those steps in the right direction.”
Singh will present the “ABCD’s of Preventing Heart Disease” on Oct. 25 at 5:30 p.m. at Musser Public Library, 408 East Second Street, Muscatine. The event is free and online registration is now open.
Heart disease remains the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States, but it’s also preventable if you work to lower your risks. During the Heart to Heart event, Singh will discuss a wide variety of topics related to heart health including prevention, treatment, and how simple lifestyle changes can make a serious and lasting impact.
“Healthy diet and lifestyle are key weapons to fighting heart disease,” says Singh.
Some of the major risk factors for heart disease include high blood pressure, obesity, family history, and older age. Certain everyday lifestyle choices can also increase your risk. By making the following changes now, you can help prevent or delay your risk for developing heart disease:
• Don’t smoke – or quit smoking
• Eating a balanced diet (lean meats, whole grains, fruits, and vegetables)
• Getting regular sleep and exercise
• Managing stress
• Limiting alcohol
• Keeping up on other routine prevention and wellness checks

Heart to Heart continues to draw dozens of attendees interested in improving their health.
“We hear from participants that the information they learned helped them eat healthier, lose weight, and feel better about their overall health,” says Kathy Pulley, Director of Cardiology Services at UnityPoint Health – Trinity.
UnityPoint Health – Trinity’s cardiology program is dedicated to improving the health of people in the Quad Cities and Muscatine area. The Heart to Heart Community Education Series is one way our team is consistently working in the community to help people improve their day-to-day lives.
“These sessions are empowering people to live a healthier life and help them feel their best for years to come,” says Pulley.
The Heart to Heart series is presented free of charge thanks to the generosity of Trinity Health Foundation donors.
“As an added benefit for attendees, we are offering complimentary blood pressure checks and lipid panel testing before the event,” says Pulley. “Simply let us know when you register so we can schedule you.”
