MUSCATINE, Iowa–For years, the staff of the Muscatine Humane Society and Beth Van Zandt, co-owner of Happy Tail’s Pet Resort and Kennel and founder of For Pets’ Sake, have remained fast friends. In conversation, Van Zandt and Debbie Back from the Muscatine Humane Society came up with the idea of holding a joint fundraiser for both organizations. The drummer for Lefty and the Spinners, Van Zandt suggested holding a concert. From this brainstorming came Woofstock.
Aug. 14 from 6 to 9 p.m., Lefty and the Spinners will play on the lawn of the Muscatine Humane Society, giving animal and music lovers a unique evening of outdoor fun. Alongside the concert, people can grab a meal from either the Rick’s Ribs or Eats in the Streets food truck and bid in a silent auction. Featuring many attractive items and packages, such as stays at the Merrill Hotel, a local massage session, handmade jewelry, a tool basket, and custom made pet beds, the auction will appeal to many bidders.
Anyone who would like to attend Woofstock can purchase tickets either at the Muscatine Humane Society at 920 South Houser Street, Muscatine or at Happy Tails Pet Resort and Spa at 720 Clay Street, Muscatine by the end of the day July 20. Tickets cost $25 a piece and come with a Woofstock t-shirt. Children under five-years-old may attend for free.
Each year, the Muscatine Humane Society provides care and shelter to hundreds of animals in search of a forever home. For Pets Sake provides countless pounds of food to families in need and cares for the pets of people temporarily staying at Muscatine Center for Social Action. With the help of the community, they can continue this important work and give animals and families in need better lives. As Van Zandt put it, she looks forward to, “seeing everyone having a good time while supporting two local organizations.”
