MUSCATINE, Iowa – The open burning ban for Muscatine County was lifted effective at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2020.

Pursuant to Chapter 100.40, State Code of Iowa, and at the request of Brian Wright, representing each fire department having all or part of their fire districts within Muscatine County, the open burning ban for Muscatine County will be lifted effective Sept. 8, 2020, at 12:00 p.m.

The Muscatine County Emergency Management Agency, in conjunction with the local Fire Chiefs and the State Fire Marshals Office, issued a Burn Ban on Friday, Sept. 4, 2020, after determining that open burning constituted a danger to life or property in Muscatine County, Iowa.

A general consensus from the Fire Chiefs of Muscatine County prompted Muscatine County Emergency Management Director Brian Wright to request the State Fire Marshals Office to prohibit open burning in Muscatine County at that time.

The National Weather Service (NWS) indicates that Muscatine County is in a Moderate Drought (D1) indicating that fire risk is high with streams, reservoirs, or wells low, and some water shortages developing or imminent.

Heavy rain across the region diminished the danger to life and/or property prompting the Fire Chiefs and Wright to request the State Fire Marshals Office to rescind the Burn Ban.
