MUSCATINE, Iowa-This year more than most, juniors and seniors at Muscatine High School look forward to attending prom. After COVID-19 mitigation efforts canceled last year’s event, many feel excited to regain some normalcy through this dance. Though the event will look different than it has in years past, with students gathering outdoors in the football stadium to promote social distancing, some things will stay the same. For the 23rd consecutive year, Krieger’s of Muscatine has donated a car to give away to one lucky senior student who attends the Carnival After Prom Extravaganza, or CAPE.

Since the spring of 1998, Krieger’s has given away cars for every single CAPE, including last year’s socially distanced giveaway. Joey Krieger shared that the company started donating a car each year as a way for Krieger’s to act on one of their core values, “giving back to the community and supporting the youth of our community.”

This year, any senior student who attends CAPE, held at Muscatine High School directly after prom on May 1, can enter into the drawing for a 2011 Jeep Liberty Limited. In a year when the number of used cars on the market stayed consistently low, Krieger’s worked hard to find the perfect vehicle to give away. “Inventory is extremely low and has been for almost an entire year,” explained Krieger. “We have had our eyes out for a CAPE car since November!”

Krieger thinks that the Jeep Liberty, with snazzy features like heated leather seats, remote start, four wheel drive, a GPS, and an infinity sound system will wow any seniors looking for rides of their own. When selecting each year’s car, Krieger says he focuses on choosing a “safe and reliable,” car that, “anyone would think is cool.”

With prom only days away, many students have already begun to get ready for the big event and to think about their late night plans. Krieger hopes that fun incentives like the CAPE car giveaway, will encourage kids to make smart choices and enjoy one of the most memorable nights of their high school careers safely. “Being one of many supporters of CAPE is something our entire company is proud of,” he stated. “Providing a fun and safe place for our juniors and seniors to celebrate after prom is a no brainer–giving away a free car is something I think helps draw kids into the event, along with all the other amazing prizes given away.”
