Ask anyone who’s ever been to Pearl City Popcorn and they will tell you this is one of the best places to get snacks in the whole city! Whether you enjoy classic popcorn, unique flavors, or would rather have an ice cream treat, Pearl City Popcorn has just what you need to satisfy every craving.

In June 2019, Shiloe Hillman and her husband decided to make Pearl City Popcorn their full-time job and opened their store at 119 Chestnut Street, Muscatine. Before that, Hillman shared, “we were doing kettle corn at farmers markets and fairs on weekends.”

By opening a shop of their own, the Hillmans could focus on their growing business instead of trying to help it succeed around their work schedules. “That way, we weren’t juggling two jobs,” Hillman said.

Originally known for their delectable kettle corn, Pearl City Popcorn has expanded their selection to include many more flavors. Along with their perennial favorite, Windy City popcorn (which mixes kettle corn with cheese flavored popcorn), they also have seasonal blends, such a cupid corn for Valentines Day and Kringle corn for Christmas. Hillman develops each new flavor herself, making sure everything Pearl City Popcorn sells is original and tastes delicious.

If crunchy or salty snacks aren’t really your thing, Pearl City Popcorn also has an ice cream counter sure to delight anyone who prefers a cool and sweet treat. Featuring ice cream made right in Iowa (Heyn’s, from North Liberty) Pearl City Popcorn always keeps a core of six flavors in stock, including crowd pleasers such as blueberry cheesecake, monster mash, and mint chocolate chip, as well as many seasonal flavors. Looking to cool down this summer? Have a cone of banana pudding or coconut chip. Love all things pumpkin spice? Stop in this October for pumpkin pie. Feeling festive? Have a happy holiday cup of eggnog ice cream in December.

As you search out your next favorite treat, Hillman hopes you’ll give Pearl City Popcorn a try. “It’s always good to shop local,” she said. “We’re completely unique—there’s nothing around here like us!”
